In History of European Law, students will delve into; realising that the study of medieval and modern age legal experience can help to understand and outline the most significant aspects and founding values of the existing European legal systems; acquiring an in-depth understanding of the different phases and essential lines of development of the European legal history; developing appropriate learning, problem-solving and critical analysis skills to independently investigate legal sources and doctrines in their historical evolution; and developing the research and communication skills necessary for presenting and discussing the fundamental topics of the Course.

European Company Law

European Company Law has as a target the understanding of the actual structure of European Company Law, particularly with regards to recent harmonisation and  simplification processes. It aims also at stimulating the student to reflect, through a critical analysis of legislative material and court cases, on the impact of Company Law harmonisation and choice of law on developments in national Company Law, as well as on the relevance of regulatory competition and regulatory arbitrage for the internal market.

European Civil Procedure and Arbitration

European Civil Procedure and Arbitration enables students to; gain an accurate mastery of European civil procedure law, beginning from the framework of civil  judicial protection under CEDU principles and from the common principles governing jurisdictional protection in European States; appreciate the genesis of European civil procedure law (from 1968 Brussels Convention on jurisdiction and enforcement of judgments in civil and commercial matters to the system created by Brussels Regulation on jurisdiction and enforcement); and gain an insight and understanding of principles within arbitration law.

European Taxation Law

The European Taxation Law course will focus on the main characteristics of European taxation law, addressing topics including: general features of European taxation law; positive tax integration; negative tax integration; the role of the European Commission; the role of the European Court of Justice; actions against harmful tax competition and tax avoidance;  territorial tax incentives and European taxation law.

Law and Economics offers the opportunity to; learn the basics of economic theory and methodology in the analysis of the law; obtain a thorough grounding in principles of Law and Economics; learn the basic microeconomic analytical tools and methodologies for the fields of Law and Economics, Regulation and Competition policy; acquire awareness on the founding principles of EU and US Competition Policies; and develop the ability to understand and interpret the case by case analysis in the field of Antitrust.
